Under EU Regulation 2023/1542, EV batteries, LMT batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market are subject to the battery passport requirement. The passport must be accessible through a QR code and use structured, machine-readable and interoperable data.

Review the full suite of battery products

Identify which products fall within the scope of the applicable EU battery regulations.

Determine the specific EU regulatory requirements

Define exactly what information, technical documentation, labelling, declarations and digital data are required for each product category.

Create a product-by-product compliance matrix

Map the product or category, applicable EU regulations, compliance requirements, required data fields, documentation, QR code or DPP requirements, and all outstanding gaps or actions.

Create a cohesive, structured and exportable data format

Capture the required information in a software-readable form that can support compliant QR codes and, where applicable, Digital Battery Passports.

Develop the QR code and data process

Keep the underlying information accurate, complete, current, machine-readable and interoperable rather than producing a static QR code.

Establish regulatory support and liaison

Enable the responsible team to engage EU regulatory or market-surveillance bodies and resolve QR code or battery-passport issues promptly.

Support successful EU market entry

Identify and resolve regulatory issues in advance to minimise delays when importing or placing battery products on the EU market.
