From 18 February 2027, EV batteries, LMT batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the EU market require a Digital Product Passport. Shipments can be blocked, contracts can be lost and export revenue can be put directly at risk.
Most teams assume the data will be easy to collect. In practice, evidence is often incomplete, held by suppliers or scattered across technical files, reports, declarations and legacy systems, and it does not stay current.

The EU Battery Passport. Is your battery in scope?
The Battery Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, makes the Battery Passport the first mandatory Digital Product Passport. Each covered battery needs its own passport, reached through a QR code on the battery, holding its identity, materials, carbon footprint, due diligence, circularity and performance data.

Then the next Digital Product Passports.
Under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2024/1781, passports will follow for other product groups. Among the first prioritised:
- Textiles and apparel
- Iron and steel
- Aluminium
- Furniture
- Tyres
- Mattresses
